Geneva’s highly anticipated career fair was held on Feb. 27, hosted by the Center for Calling & Career. The Metheny Fieldhouse was filled with 103 employers who shared with students about job opportunities, internships, and graduate programs. Over 450 students and 60 faculty members attended the event.
“Geneva is extremely welcoming, super friendly, and very organized. It’s been fantastic!” remarks the visiting representative from PNC Financial Services.
“This has been a very clean and organized fair,” says the Allegheny Health Network representative. “The students always seem to come extremely prepared and put together, which is great!”
The overwhelming success of last year’s career fair paved the way for another fruitful event as top employers set up at Geneva to meet with students. There were representatives from large medical corporations, including University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Allegheny Health Network (AHN) which is part of Highmark Health, and Heritage Valley Health Services (HVHS). We were joined by engineering firms and financial institutions such as PNC Financial Services and Northwestern Mutual. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was recruiting, as well as several state police departments — including Pa., Md., Va., and Ohio.
For students seeking further education, the career fair offered a chance to network with a range of graduate schools and seminaries such as Duquesne University, Penn State Behrend, Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS), and Trinity School for Ministry. Students interested in short-term and long-term ministry opportunities could speak with representatives from local organizations such as Aliquippa Impact, numerous camp ministries, the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO), and English Language Institute China (ELIC).
Students are often surprised to find how many employers are looking to fill jobs that may not seem within their field, such as engineering firms seeking marketing specialists and accountants. As students learn firsthand at the Geneva College Career Fair, you never know what opportunities may arise through networking. So don’t be afraid to ask questions, explore organizations that seem out of your field, and trust that the Lord will make His vocational calling on your life known in His time.
